Dragon Age 4 Officially Titled ‘Dreadwolf,’ New Details Teased

Dragon Age 4 Dreadwolf

Years after announcing the next Dragon Age game, BioWare has been consistently tight-lipped about the in-development fantasy RPG, only occasionally dropping small hints about the adventure or word of personnel changes taking place at the studio. However, players’ long-awaited return to Thedas may now have its most substantial tease yet with the reveal of the game’s official title. No, it isn’t Dragon Age 4, BioWare has confirmed the title will indeed be Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

The news was formally rolled out in the latest edition of the BioWare blog, which confirmed the Dreadwolf title and its association with a particular character, namely, the elven mage Solas. Himself dubbed “The Dread Wolf,” the complicated character is both a source of adoration and revulsion among Dragon Age Inquisition fans, with BioWare themselves teasing as much with references to his “inscrutable” motives and “questionable” methods, earning him the reputation of “a player of dark and dangerous games.”

“Whether you’re new to Dragon Age stories or you’ve experienced them all, using Solas’s namesake no doubt suggests a spectrum of endless possibilities on where things may go. But at the core of this, like every past game, is you. If you’re new to Dragon Age, you have no need to worry about not having met our antagonist just yet. He’ll properly introduce himself when the time is right.”

Fans have been spinning countless theories that Dragon Age 4 would have something cooking with Solas since the game’s announcement in 2018, and further delving into lore has done nothing but strengthen these suspicions over the years. Even so, It’s still much too early to guess what BioWare may actually have in store for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, only that fans’ beloved elf companion is definitely rearing his ugly egg-head for another adventure.

Though Dreadwolf finally sees the fourth installment met with an official name, it marks BioWare’s first big Dragon Age update in quite a while. As the developer quietly makes strides rebuilding its reputation, fans recently saw the debut of a new collection of character figures from Dark Horse Direct, recreating the witchy likes of Morrigan, Qunari leader THE Iron Bull, as well as clever dwarf companion Varric in the form of 7-inch statues.
