The Assassin’s Creed franchise has shied away from stealth as its primary focus over time, opting instead to focus on massive open worlds for players to explore and fight through in a more action-focused style of gameplay. While stealth is still a viable option, the feature isn’t quite the priority these days and though recent titles such as Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla are quite enjoyable on their own, they don’t necessarily follow the traditional “Assassin’s Creed” formula. Still, fans of the series’ more stealth-focused gameplay may be getting their chance within the next title in the franchise.

A recent Bloomberg report suggests Ubisoft is working on a new spin-off title that could bring back this older style of Assassin’s Creed games. According to anonymous sources close to the project, the project codenamed ‘Rift’ and is focused around the character Basim from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Said to leave behind the RPG elements of recent games, the title was reportedly planned as an expansion to Valhalla before development eventually turned into a standalone title.

Not only is Rift claimed to be planned as smaller in scale, but the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title is also said to place a larger emphasis on stealth, more than many of the latest entries in the series. There was no mention from the sources about how “stealth-based” the gameplay might be, but the unannounced project is reportedly on track to release either later this year or sometime in 2023. With any luck, fans will be hearing more about this mysterious potential title in the near future.

Though there is confirmation of a new game in the works, a stealth-focused AC game has not been mentioned as of yet. However, the idea that it might have been DLC for Assassins Creed Valhalla definitely makes sense considering the details involved.
