Horizon Forbidden West Officially Delayed, Releasing In 2022
Horizon Forbidden West is just one of Sony’s highly anticipated console exclusives, with the game’s release originally set to help fill a gap in new arrivals this Holiday season. That said, it looks like the PlayStation company will have to make due without, as it’s been announced that the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn has been delayed and will now be releasing in Q1 2022.
As revealed during the opening night of Gamescom 2021, Horizon Forbidden West will now be releasing on February 18, 2022 for PS4 and PS5. The announcement comes just weeks after rumors of the delay, with Sony seemingly waiting until Gamescom to announce the pushed back release date. “It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance,” said Guerrilla Games game director Mathijs de Jonge in a recent PlayStation Blog post.
While the decision to move the game’s launch to 2022 certainly wasn’t easy, we’d like to take a moment to thank all of our fans for their unwavering support; we know how much you’ve been looking forward to reuniting with Aloy and her friends, continuing her story, and exploring a new and more dangerous world. Your passion, fan art, cosplay, virtual photography, and videos have meant the world to all of us.”
On the plus side, fans needn’t wait much longer to get their Aloy fix. Accompanying the release date confirmation during Gamescom was a new cinematic trailer for Genshin Impact that showed the Nora Huntress in action. She’ll be coming to the popular mobile game as a playable character on September 1st, 2021, initially as a PlayStation console exclusive.
Horizon Forbidden West is now slated to release on February 18, 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
