Soulja Boy Releases New Single “Zelda,” Samples Main Theme (VIDEO)
One might think that after being Nintendo cracked down on Soulja Boy and his knock off consoles that the American rapper would stop with the ridiculous antics. It seems however the artist still wants to take on the major game company, claiming that he was the reason behind former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé’s retirement. Now Soulja Boy has decided to create a new single, using the Legend of Zelda as an inspiration.
Not only does the track sample the 1986 game’s theme but the a majority of the lyrics revolve around a single line where Soulja Boy expresses “green diamonds like Zelda,” which fans will recognize from the franchise. Later on in the song, the artist mentions a variety of games from his youth such as Golden Eye 007, the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and more. Honestly, it would be an awesome tribute to nostalgia if the rapper didn’t already have an obnoxious history with the company and their property.
The cover art for the track features a near copy and paste of the Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker logo and shows an image of Link as seen in Wind Waker. This version of Link however sees the character wielding two firearms akimbo. The artwork and title of the song seems to be a cut version of a Soulja Boy x Wind Waker mashup by YouTuber eviltwinnumber2 that was made back in 2017. While Nintendo has yet to make an official statement on the matter, it’s hard to imagine that the company gave Soulja Boy permission to use either the artwork or the music itself.
What do you think of the artist’s latest single, is it a nod to the highly recognizable franchise or is it simply an attempt to leech off of the popular series?
