Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Final Trailer Previews Knuckles Showdowns

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 final trailer

2022 looks to be another significant year for video game franchises to reach new heights with film and television adaptations. Movie theaters have geared up for their big return, with the new live-action Uncharted movie finding success at the box office. Not only will this year see a new animated Super Mario movie, but a sequel to 2020’s hit Sonic the Hedgehog film as well. The first film excited fans with the promise of more classic Sonic characters and pieces of lore. Now, Paramount has released the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 final trailer, which hypes up Sonic’s multiple showdowns with Knuckles the Echidna.

Paramount released the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 final trailer on their official YouTube channel. The trailer opens with Tom and Maddie Wachowski (with James Marsden and Tika Sumpter reprising their roles from the first film) attending the wedding of Maddie’s sister Rachel (with Natasha Rothwell also reprising her comic relief role from the first film.) Tom, though, receives a phone call from Sonic (with his classic Green Hill Zone theme as his ringtone) asking for an assist via the gold rings. A portal opens up sending Sonic and Tails from a snowy mountain to their Hawaiian wedding island. It is there that Sonic confirms that Dr. Robotnik has returned (with Jim Carrey also reprising his role, now with a more game-accurate look) and that he now has access to what appears to be one of the Chaos Emeralds.

Dr. Robotnik also reconnects with his former henchman Agent Stone and introduces him to his latest ally, Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba). Robotnik also appears to have gained new powers (presumably through the Chaos Emerald) that allow him to move metal objects with his mind. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are then seen in a variety of action sequences, including thwarting an armored truck heist, an escape from an icy temple ruin, and a fight between Sonic and Knuckles at the Wachowski’s home. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 final trailer then confirms that tickets are now available for the film ahead of its release on April 8th. The first Sonic film was one of the last pre-pandemic box office successes, and here’s hoping the sequel can ring in a new era for the film industry with its sequel.
