Sea Of Thieves Devs Talk Launch Woes in New Video As One Million Players Milestone Hit (VIDEO)

Rare Devs

This week, the highly anticipated Xbox/Windows 10 exclusive Sea of Thieves launched and already over 1 million players have begun to set sail on their own pirate adventures. The game was reported to have had over 5,000 players logging in per minute which quickly overloaded the servers causing a whole host of issues. Two Rare devs brought fans a little clarity on what was going on with these issues as well as a chance to offer up a little insight as to how their servers work.

The video below features Studio Head Craig Duncan and Executive Producer Joe Neate as they discuss the massive launch. The insane amount of players wanting to play the game all at once was impossible to predict and the servers were at one point suspended in an effort to regain control of the situation. According to the developers, there are issues which are top priority at the moment such as bugs on the Xbox One X, not being able to log into a game, missing rewards, and more. They also asked that players be patient as they continue to make progress in resolving complaints.

One of the major issues is that players are unable to receive rewards such as gold, purchased items, and reputation. Because of the backlog of information running through the servers, these rewards are merely being delayed. The developers advise players to just continue playing rather than attempting to back out and re-login as that only adds to the server issues. Eventually those rewards will show up, however, assured the team.
