Who’s a Good Boy? – RoVR Lets You Raise Your Own Puppy in Virtual Reality (VIDEO)
Those who have owned a dog in their lives know the challenges they are to take care of. Walking, feeding, and never-ending belly rubs all seem worth the hassle when doing them for your animal best friend. In the past, titles such as Nintendogs or Tamagotchi have converted aspects of the pet-owning experience into delightful games, but the new title RoVR aims to bring the fun into virtual reality.
At the start, players will first meet their digital dog inside a box marked ‘Free Puppies,’ where the pup will be chosen as the game’s furry companion. From here, RoVR‘s open world setting will present a number of activities to complete, including getting some dog food, roaming around the neighborhood, and playing some good ol’ fetch.
RoVR’s extended range of activities stem from the game’s AI, which responds to how the dog is interacted with via hand gestures. Like in real life, puppers that are lovingly petted and trained will become obedient animals over time, while ignoring these objectives will lead to a misbehaving dog. Those that train well enough can eventually show off their skills at dog show competitions.
Various pet costumes and accessories can be unlocked over time, and virtual owners can take in-game photos of their four-legged pal to share on the web. For now, RoVR is awaiting funding on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, with a $30,000 goal. More options are said to be made available upon surpassing the project’s stretch goals, including a multiplayer mode, the addition of cats, and the release of the game’s soundtrack, some of which can be heard in the official project video below.

RoVR is aiming to arrive on the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in March 2018, with a beta scheduled for this winter. So, what do you think? Are you interested in raising your own VR doggo, or does your real-life pet have jealousy issues that would prevent such a thing?
