New ‘The Ringed City DLC’ Images Rekindle the Flame for ‘Dark Souls III’
Earlier today, new images appeared on the Dark Souls III Facebook page. They include exclusive screenshots and artworks showcasing terrifying beasts, new weapons, and environments from The Ringed City DLC. Alongside the pictures are descriptions of what fans are actually looking at, which is a nice touch. The Ringed City DLC will be the second and final expansion for Bandai Namco’s Dark Souls III. As expected, the DLC contains new armor sets, weapons, spells, and more. Of course, there are also new locations showcased in the images that reveal what the players can expect.
The first image(above) is described as a tower which rises above the clouds, where a well known sword resides. If you’ll notice, at the top of this tower is something suspiciously similar to the shape of the Sword of Avowal, a ceremonial sword of Londor. Known in game from when the Pilgrim of Londor gives players this key item during the “Anri of Astoria” questline from the main story. That being said, what kind of sword could be hiding at the top of this glorious tower? Oddly, many of the images released so far contain many references to Londor as well as Pyromancy. Of course, the following two images are no exception. Check them out:
The things to note here are the large, grotesque demon, the creepy winged bug creature, and the flaming sword. Of course, the demon is… well, a demon. However, it appears to be losing its flame. Now, the race of demons were born from the Flame of Chaos, indicating a lot of fire. As such, it’s strange for one to see a demon with a sickly, smoldering flame such as this. According to the description linked to the image, it seems some kind of poison is slowly killing it:
The last survivor of Demons who were born from the Flame of Chaos, dwelling below the land. With a grotesque look having been exposed to poison, their flame is fading away…”
As for the second image, it appears fairly straight forward. The bug creature is nasty. It will most likely have some kind of flying dodge due to the wings seen in the image. It also appears to have six limbs which could mean trouble for flanking players. Now, the flaming sword… that is rather interesting. The description for this potentially implies a connection to the Flame of Chaos:
The Chaos Fire itself is a curved sword as it transforms into a sword shape. It could be a weapon to be used as a sword or simultaneously, as pyromancy.”
This last image is reminiscent of something a player might find in Bloodbourne, or even the Mother from Dragon Age: Awakening. Nasty looking bugger, isn’t it? Well, this beautifully terrifying thing is called a Locust. “When a city falls into an Abyss, Locusts will then arise. It is said that they will feast on anything and everything that is in their path.” The Ringed City DLC will be released on March 28, and you can check out the rest of the images right here.
