WATCH: Paladins Announces New PUBG-Like Battle Royale Mode With Paladins: Battlegrounds

Paladins

As long as certain things are even remotely similar, comparisons will be aplenty. However, when two items are extremely like each other, people will begin to think one is simply a knockoff. When it comes to video games, many liken one party of said comparison to a clone. You probably already know that, and it’s possible that you’re privy to the story of Paladins: Champions of the Realm and its similarities to the small indie title Overwatch. While the two are very much alike, and the debate as to whether or not the former ripped off the latter will always remain, it looks as if Hi-Rez Studios’ game is looking to branch out into a genre that has been made insanely popular by another title.

Paladins: Battlegrounds is exactly what it sounds like. The hero-shooter is bringing the battle royale mode PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been dominating with to its own world. 100 players will enter, but only one will remain. Outside of the more animated style that Paladins possesses, the game will also be offering up something PUBG doesn’t have – special abilities. This will surely make things interesting in battle. Check out a bit of the action in the video below:

Now that Paladins is receiving its own PUBG-like battle royale mode, what could that possibly mean for Blizzard’s team-based hero-shooter? Sure, Overwatch is more popular than Hi-Rez’s game, but with the addition of the feature, Paladins could certainly bring itself within striking distance of the juggernaut. How Blizzard will respond is anyone’s guess at this point, but it is exciting to think of 100 riptires being set off simultaneously… because science.

Paladins: Champions of the Realm is currently available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with the Battlegrounds mode set to arrive at some point in 2018. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming news, check out the following:
