Nintendo Switch Hackers Could Earn Up to $20k to Hack Their Systems

Nintendo Switch Hackers

In the weeks that have now followed the Nintendo Switch’s launch, the console has seen its fair share of issues directly addressed and even already solved by Nintendo. The biggest and most widely known concerns so far have mostly dealt with hardware issues, such as the left joy-con issues that were recently solved by Nintendo.

Not much has been heard about the potential exploits that can be found in the console’s software, but it seems that the company is thinking proactively on this matter. It appears that the Big N is looking for Nintendo Switch hackers to report on any possible vulnerabilities that the console might have.

A new HackerOne posting by Nintendo shows that the company is willing to pay up to a $20,000 bounty for identified potential Nintendo Switch and 3DS exploits. They’re primarily interested in information that can help prevent piracy, cheating, and dissemination of inappropriate content to children on these two platforms. Also areas of concern are pointing out vulnerabilities that these consoles might have in regards to takeovers, privilege escalations, cloning, and security key detection that could be performed by unwanted parties on a user’s 3DS or Switch.

The posting says that Nintendo will pay anywhere between $100 and $20,000 for reports helping with these issues they’re looking to prevent. The amount that will be rewarded will depend on the importance of the information given, the quality of the report, and the severity of the vulnerability that could be prevented. The report will also have to include a proof of concept or piece of functional code which can be submitted within three weeks of a report’s submission. What do you guys think?
