New Witcher Game Saga Announced By CD Projekt RED

Witcher

While The Witcher 3 ended the story of Geralt of Rivia, there is still plenty of content to explore in the fascinating world created by Andrzej Sapkowski. Of course, it was only a matter of time before fans are able to find themselves within another epic fantasy adventure, though the who, what, when, and where remains to be seen. With any luck, players won’t have to wait a terribly long time if a recent announcement from CD Projekt RED is anything to take into account.

A recent post from the developer confirms that the next addition to the Witcher franchise is currently under development. Unfortunately, while it is wonderful that more is coming for the series, details about the title remain sparse at this time, including who the main protagonist might be, when the title will be set, and much more. What CD Projekt RED did mention, however, is a departure from its own REDengine in favor of Unreal Engine 5 this time around. Both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 were made in the REDengine game engine, so it’ll be interesting to see what can be done in with Unreal. The post also states the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion will still utilize the current REDengine instead of switching over to Unreal Engine 5. As per the post:

“This is an exciting moment as we’re moving away from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.”

Furthermore, CDPR explained the decision to switch engines, suggesting the company’s wish to expand and improve the technology at their disposal, which would come to fruition in a new partnership between CD Projekt RED and Epic Games. This latest iteration of the Unreal Engine is designed to allow teams to create incredible open worlds with greater ease that will hopefully allow the developers of the upcoming Witcher game to create an epic fantasy adventure like no other.

There was no mention of any other details concerning the upcoming title, so it may be some time before fans learn anything new about what’s to come. Regardless, it is good to hear that players will eventually sink their teeth into that world once again and from a different perspective nonetheless.
