New Spider-Man Movie Trilogy In The Works, Sony Confirms

Marvel’s multimedia empire is vast these days, with the jewels of that crown coming in the form of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The oddest piece of the MCU has been the trilogy of Spider-Man films by Sony starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, which were made in a unique deal with Sony that allows Marvel Studios to include the web-slinger in their films. It had been theorized that the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home might mark the end of Holland’s time in the MCU, but Sony has now announced that a new Spider-Man movie trilogy starring Holland is in the works.

New Spider-Man Movie Trilogy

Fandango recently shared a new interview with Sony producer Amy Pascal about the current Spider-Man movie trilogy, and the potential future output of films related to the web-slinger’s world. The release of Spider-Man: No Way Home next month will mark a big undertaking, including villains from the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb-directed Spider-Man films of the past. Many had assumed it might also conclude this iteration of Peter Parker and his friends and family. However, Pascal made a striking comment during the interview, which more or less confirmed a new trilogy starring Holland is at least in the planning stages:

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn’t part of… we’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”

Tensions between Sony and Disney have been well known for years, with their Spider-Man MCU agreement nearly being jeopardized in 2019. Recent comments from Tom Holland also suggested he might want the Spider-Man spotlight to be shifted away from him, perhaps to the fan-favorite Miles Morales character. For now, though, it seems that Holland’s time under the mask will continue on beyond No Way Home into a new trilogy of films, and potentially Into the wider Spider-Verse as well.
