Natalie Portman SNL Short Defends The Star Wars Prequels With Rapping (VIDEO)

Now that it has been more than a decade since the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the last of the George Lucas-directed Star Wars prequel films, both the fans and the stars of the film have been able to talk more openly and objectively about the trilogy. Hayden Christensen made an appearance at last year’s Star Wars Celebration convention and Ewan McGregor has expressed interest in returning to the saga, if called upon. Now, a new Natalie Portman SNL digital short features the actress rapping to defend the trilogy in which she served as the female lead.

The official Saturday Night Live YouTube channel has released the digital short that aired as a part of the most recent SNL airing that Natalie Portman hosted. The short serves as a sequel to a rap song created by comedy music group The Lonely Island, which had Portman lampoon the public’s perception of her as a role model and Harvard student elite. This new short mainly focuses on the life changes Portman has gained since performing the previous rap song, such as her marriage to dancer Benjamin Millepied and her giving birth to their two children.

Given the recent release of the well-received Star Wars films, naturally the prequels became a topic after the video’s interviewer more or less belittles them. Portman once again dons her iconic red Queen Amidala outfit, with glock in hand pointed at the interviewer. She then tells him to give a positive comment about the prequel films, as Jar Jar Binks walks in and reveals his “17 D***s”. While this is a bit of a goofy presentation, it is nice to see Natalie Portman allowing herself to objectively acknowledge the criticisms that many have expressed about the prequel films in a tongue-in-cheek way.
