Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Solo Film Reportedly in Early Stages of Development

Obi-Wan Kenobi film

Given the most recent updates to the Walt Disney Company’s release schedule for their upcoming Star Wars film projects only confirmed the soon to be released The Last Jedi, the Han Solo Anthology film that is finishing up on filming now, and the trilogy-ending Episode IX, fans have been eagerly awaiting for the company to confirm what the next Star Wars film announcement would be. Long have the rumors of a spinoff film centered around Boba Fett, Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi circulated throughout the web, but now we may know what the future holds for the galaxy far, far away. New reports indicate that the Star Wars Anthology Obi-Wan Kenobi film is indeed in the works, and may have a director.

The Hollywood Reporter today posted an exclusive report based on sources close to them that believe Disney and Lucasfilm are in the early stages of development for a film based on Obi-Wan Kenobi, famously portrayed by Sir Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy and Ewan McGregor in the prequel trilogy. The sources also believe that the studio is seeking to recruit Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry to direct the film. Daldry previously directed Billy Elliot, as well as The Hours.

The talks between Lucasfilm and Daldry have not finished yet, but Daldry would also be expected to oversee the writing process of the film’s script, as it has not been started yet. Ewan McGregor has previously expressed interest in reprising his role as Obi-Wan for a film such as this, but no actor has been cast yet for the role. Still, it will be interesting to see what becomes of this film, and to see Daldry step into this much larger world. What do you guys think about the new Obi-Wan Kenobi film?
