Mass Effect Trilogy Sequel Possibly Hinted In New EA Trademark (VIDEO)
Even all these years later, one of BioWare‘s most beloved RPG series continues to be Mass Effect, the sci-fi exploration series filled to the brim with engaging story and wonderfully relatable characters. Though the series’ most recent entry is widely-regarded as a misstep, fans’ hopes continue to hold the line for an eventual follow-up from BioWare sometime in the future.
It appears that fans may actually get their wish according to a new piece of speculation. “Skullzi TV” over on YouTube has put forth a pretty intriguing video suggesting Electronic Arts has big plans for Mass Effect, specifically that original trilogy protagonist Commander Shepard may be coming back for another space-faring adventure.
Seen above, the main source of the video is a newly-discovered trademark issued by EA, an unannounced project called “Project Apex.” It’s argued that the significance of the word “Apex” in Mass Effect, such as in Mass Effect: Andromeda’s multiplayer campaign, could point to another game in the series, but that alone doesn’t paint the whole picture.
Further digging around in EA’s trademark database finds prominence of the word “not dead” buried in its list of terms. The video proposes the possibility this could refer to an eventful return of Commander Shepard and the possibility that a sequel to the original Mass Effect trilogy could very well be on the way.
The future of Mass Effect has been a big topic of fan speculation as of late, as BioWare has continuously hinted at the series’ resurgence over the last few months. The developer has spoken a number of times regarding the future of Mass Effect, whether it be the series’ “bright future,” the studio’s teasing of something big on the horizon, or even confirming “secret” plans going on behind the scenes. Whatever may be on the way, it certainly seems as though fans might want to take notice.
What do you think? Is BioWare secretly developing a Mass Effect trilogy sequel, or do you feel the franchise will go in an entirely new direction next time around?
