BioWare Attempted To Create Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3

BioWare - Knights of the Old Republic 3

While EA and BioWare are gearing up for the highly anticipated Anthem release next month, much of the discussion around the two organizations has been overshadowed by EA’s cancellation of a planned open world Star Wars game. Apparently, it seems that this was not the only ambitious and fan-desired title that EA shot down before it hit the atmosphere. According to one source who brought the recent cancellation news to light, BioWare had attempted in the past to develop Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3.

After his explosive coverage of the cancelled Star Wars game, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has been sharing his past coverage of EA’s game cancellations on his official Twitter account. A retelling of various games cancelled, gameplay compromised, and even whole studios shut down due to EA’s management practices led one reader to bring up a game from more fondly remembered days, namely Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. However, Schreier had his own insider knowledge to share and bring even more of a disappointment cloud regarding Knights of the Old Republic 3.

According to Schreier, BioWare had proposed to EA, several times in fact, to resurrect the KOTOR series with a third core entry in the franchise. He doesn’t mention what years these took place, but given BioWare’s work on the Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Anthem series the past few years, they’ve had their hands full.

EA likely preferred that BioWare focus on these franchises, and leave the Star Wars games to other studios like DICE. After KOTOR 1 and 2, fans did get The Old Republic MMO, which has received several significant expansions in the years since. However, for those meatbags looking for KOTOR 3, we are sorry to say it was destroyed as a youngling by the Anakin that is EA.
