Marvel’s Spider-Man Possibly Teasing Green Goblin’s Origins (VIDEO)

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Marvel’s Spider-Man has a plethora of hints and easter eggs concerning a wide variety of characters within the Spidey universe from Daredevil, the Avengers, Doctor Strange, and others. There’s even the iconic cameo of Stan Lee and hints at Morbius, the Living Vampire. While many of these seem to be just references, some late-game sleuthing may hint at the arrival of the Halloween-themed Super Villain, Green Goblin.

The following may provide spoilers for late-game sequences, so fans be warned. Towards the end of the game, players take control of Mary Jane as she sneaks into Norman Osborn’s penthouse apartment to look for an antiserum for “Dragon’s Breath,” the biological weapon that Doc Ock has released into the city. Using a mechanic similar to Parker’s Spidey Senses, players are able to locate objects of interest, which one fan used to discover some compelling hints to the terrifying Green Goblin. The video below showcases the sequence beginning at around 11:26:00:

The first item that was spotted is an armored mask that stands out from the rest of the valuables within the apartment. After picking it up, MJ says that it is a prototype combat mask that appears to reveal structural weaknesses. After putting it on, a series of numbers appear indicating which prototype version the helmet is, including the letters GG, which could directly reference Green Goblin. In the top left corner of the HUD, there’s also an image of what appears to be a glider with the text “Glider Tech Sync” and a percentage of the sync completed. It’s safe to assume that this is in fact a reference to the glider the Green Goblin rides on.

While the mask is probably the biggest reference, there are some smaller ones such as blueprints for the project with “AS14” on them which refers to the Green Goblin’s appearance in Amazing Spider-Man issue 14. There are also some grenades that can be found on a table that happen to be the Green Goblin’s weapon of choice. All of this – and the game’s ending scene – seem to hint at the Green Goblin’s grand debut.

Spider-Man is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Are you excited for the possibility of seeing Green Goblin make an appearance in the future?
