Kevin Hart Reportedly In Talks To Join Borderlands Movie Cast
The movie industry seems to be quite fixated with video games as a source of franchises to adapt into major film productions. A new Mortal Kombat reboot film is planned to be released in 2021, and a sequel to this year’s Sonic the Hedgehog film is also in the works. Another major project previously announced has been the live-action Borderlands film, which has Cate Blanchette attached to the project to portray Lilith. With such a dramatic actress with wide range, many wondered what tone the film might take. Well, it seems that the film is going for a more comedic tone, as comedian Kevin Hart is reportedly being sought for the film.
The Illuminerdi recently reported the exclusive story regarding Kevin Hart and the Borderlands live-action movie. According to sources close to the project’s production, Kevin Hart is in talks to portray the character Roland from the video game series, described for the film as “as a decent man and grizzled veteran, as well as a former member of the Crimson Lance who now operates as a soldier.” If Hart is indeed cast, he will be the only known actor confirmed for the film besides Cate Blanchette, who was cast previous as Lilith. Roland was playable character in the first Borderlands game, and became a supporting NPC in Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel.
While Kevin Hart has not yet acted in a direct video game film adaptation yet, many know his connection to gaming culture in film with his work in the two recent Jumanji films that pivoted the franchise to adventure video game settings. Many praised Hart’s comedy performance in those films, and if he does indeed joing Borderlands, he should be able to help replicate the comedic tone that Borderlands games often exhibit. Now let’s see if he can convince Dwayne Johnson to portray Brick the Berserker.
