Hogwarts Legacy Delay Pushes Release to 2022

Hogwarts Legacy

The COVID-19 global pandemic has affected many sectors of the world, and the gaming industry has certainly felt its effects. The big way the gaming industry has been impacted has been delays caused by the pandemic making numerous gaming industry developers work remotely, which lengthens development time. Games that saw delays like this last year included The Last of Us Part II and Cyberpunk 2077, the latter seeing a disastrous, glitchy launch. Now, it seems that another big title will be seeing a significant delay, very likely due to the pandemic, as a Hogwarts Legacy delay to 2022 has been confirmed.

As reported by GameInformer, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced the new Hogwarts Legacy delay on the game’s official Twitter account. The announcement image reads: “We would like to thank fans from around the world for the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label. Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us, so we are giving the game the time it needs.” While it does not specifically use the word “delay” it is indeed that, as an expected launch of 2021 was stated in the past by Warner Bros.

Hogwarts Legacy Harry Potter RPG

Hogwarts Legacy is an adventure game that takes place in the 19th century, where students will play as a Hogwarts student learning about the Wizarding World. While this delay will help ensure the quality of the game and safety of employees, it may also benefit Warner Bros.’s PR for the game. Harry Potter author and creator J.K. Rowling has been the center of controversy in recent years regarding transphobic comments she has made in the past. Supposedly, she will not be involved in the development of this game, but giving some length of time between the height of these controversial statements may also be at play here. Nonetheless, while the Hogwarts Legacy delay might sadden some fans, the game is still very much alive and will see the light of day eventually. Like finding horcruxes, these things take time and patience.
