Halo: The Master Chief Collection Adding Halo Online Map To Halo 3

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo Online once aimed to be a new and free way to experience the Halo franchise using a modified version of Halo 3’s engine, though unfortunately, its time in the sun was never to come. While the game was cancelled long ago, its maps have been added to a variety of titles across the Halo franchise. Now, even more are set to arrive in Halo: The Master Chief Collection as an addition to the remastered Halo 3.

A recent update from 343 Industries revealed plans to bring a whole new slew of things to the game’s upcoming Season 8. One particular point of interest is a new map called Icebox, a remake of the classic Halo 2 map Turf, that once served as one of the maps for the cancelled Halo Online. While the original design for the map was set in the streets of New Mombasa, this version of Icebox is set in the good ol’ city of mother Russia, Tyumen.

The update also reveals the inclusion of a custom game browser for both Halo 3 and Halo CE, as well as a return for the classic HUD in Halo CE with 4K and toggle support. Halo 3 will even feature new Campaign collectibles to be found, though what exactly they might be remains to be clarified. In addition, Steam linking has become available, allowing players to see their Steam friends in-game, offering a simple but welcome addition to be sure.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s a little disappointing that Halo Online never made it out of the testing phase, but the upcoming Halo Infinite will have a free-to-play multiplayer component alongside the main campaign.
