Half-Life Game Series Now Free To Play Until Release Of Half-Life: Alyx

Valve drew a whole slew of ire from fans when it revealed that, instead of announcing Half-Life 3, the company had gone in a completely different direction with its VR prequel to Half-Life 2, Half-Life: Alyx. Still, any new title in the series is better than none at all, and Valve has confirmed that this could be the start of even more new Half-Life titles in the future. Now, it appears that Valve is looking to drum up some additional hype for the game, as it has announced that the entire Half-Life game series is now available free to play until the release of Half-Life: Alyx.

Valve recently took to the Steam Community website to announce that the entire Half-life game series is currently free to play up until the March release of Half-Life: Alyx. “Half-Life: Alyx is set before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements,” the post reads.

The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible.”

In addition to Half-Life, Half-Life 2, and the game’s two episodes, fans can also play through the two Half-Life spin-offs Opposing Force and Blue Shift. Just keep in mind that the games are considered free to play only for this brief time period, and as such you will need to purchase them again should you wish to play them after the release of Half-Life: Alyx.

Half-Life: Alyx is slated to release at some point in March 2020.
