Bluepoint Games’ Next Project Will Be Their “Greatest Achievement” Yet

Bluepoint Games' Next Project Will Be Their "Greatest Achievement"

The classic Shadow of the Colossus for the PlayStation 2 was already one of the most fondly-received titles of its time, with similar acclaim returning for the title’s enhanced 2018 remake. In the time since, developer Bluepoint Games has been working on a mysterious new project, with speculation suggesting any number of familiar game remasters may be on the way. Whatever the project happens to be, Bluepoint has assured it will be the greatest they’ve ever developed.

In a recent interview with SegmentNext (H/T Prima Games), Bluepoint president Marco Thrush teased the prospects of the studio’s next game, comparing it very favorably to their experience remaking Shadow of the Colossus two separate times. “We [Bluepoint Games] originally remastered Shadow of the Colossus for the PS3 and then remade it for the PS4. It’s the only one we’ve touched twice and to date it is our greatest achievement, so it’s easy to say that is our personal favorite,” Thrush said. “However, there’s no question in our minds that our current project will become the achievement we’re most proud of.”

Even with such an intriguing tease as this, Bluepoint stopped short of revealing any details about the contents of their efforts. Though, Thrush did go into the team’s challenge with crafting a next-gen experience for PlayStation 5, recalling their fortune in having prepared “more powerful and efficient” tools to help streamline game development. “Fortunately the Bluepoint Engine and toolset has been in development for many years,” he explained. “We have significantly invested in ways that allow our process of remastering or remaking games to be powerful and efficient. It is flexible and able to take advantage of any hardware.”

Outside the likes of Shadow of the Colossus, Bluepoint has been responsible for quite a few well-received remakes and remasterings.  The God of War and Metal Gear Solid collections were certainly solid compilations from generations’ past, as was the Nathan Drake Collection, which assembled the first three Uncharted games for the PlayStation 4. Considering Bluepoint’s demonstrated skillset across genres, the studio could conceivably be remastering numerous potential titles. Speculation has suggested Dark Souls precursor Demon’s Soul could possibly be the aforementioned game in the works, though, this rumor has yet proven entirely conclusive.
