GoldenEye 007 Fan Remake Reveals Stunning Unreal Engine 4 Possibilities (VIDEO)
As game development technology continues to evolve, the Unreal Engine has been one of the more commonly used development tools to create new games. While the Unreal Engine has been popular among professional developers, it has also become a popular means for fans to recreate their favorite titles with modern graphical capabilities. Fans have used the engine to recreate everything from Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Some have also reimagined such classics as GoldenEye 007, but one fan has now shown just how detailed a GoldenEye 007 fan remake could be in Unreal Engine 4.
Modder Rafael Menezes has released a new video of a GoldenEye 007 fan remake on their official YouTube channel. Adapting the Nintendo 64 game in Unreal Engine 4, the architectural designer recreated the familiar bathroom from the Facility map which features updated visuals as well as ray tracing. The amount of detail poured into the scene is quite impressive, down to the dynamic lighting that reflects off of the large puddle of water on the bathroom floor, and the gritty textures on the aged tiling.
There have been previous fan projects that recreated locations from GoldenEye 007 on Nintendo 64 before, such as The Silo, but this iteration shows a variety of graphical and visual aspects that can be improved and evolved with Unreal Engine 4 at its fullest potential. Many have wanted an officially licensed remake for a while, but for a GoldenEye 007 fan remake to be used in this fashion, it would create some serious legal maneuvering. Several different companies have a partial say in authorizing anything related to the original N64 game, but hopefully, they could all come to an agreement if Rafael Menezes were able to do the work of fully remaking the game for modern devices. And that would be enough to make any Bond fan Slappers Only happy.
