Fortnite Dev Pledges To “Do Whatever It Takes” To Get Sony Onboard With Crossplay

Cross-platform talk has been a huge topic of conversation for awhile now. The feature has gained some rekindled interest with Microsoft’s strong push to bring out the possibilities of the feature, and an even stronger push with Valve and Nintendo both lending their support. There have been a few speed bumps along the way such as Sony’s strong opposition to crossplay, however as time goes on more companies and developers are hitching a ride on the crossplay bandwagon. The latest of these is Fortnite dev Epic Games, who recently has pledged to do everything they can to make crossplay between all platforms a reality.

A configuration issue within Fortnite this year allowed players of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to enter into matches with each other. This was exciting, for a time – that is until the feature was abruptly taken down. While at The Game Awards this year, Epic Games’ Woldwide Creative Director Donald Mustard was asked whether or not crossplay would ever make a return to Fortnite. He responded that Fortnite is more fun while playing with real friends. Unfortunately due to restrictions between platforms, players are unable to play with their friends on different platforms.  Mustard explained that Epic Games has pledged a commitment “to do whatever it takes to make that happen” and believes that fans deserve for it to become a reality.

There are a few games out there which have some form of crossplay functionality such as Gears of War, Rocket League, and Minecraft – but nothing that can be truly called crossplay between all platforms. Will fans ever see full this idea come to fruition? Let us know your thoughts on the Fortnite dev and Mustard’s pledge to make crossplay a reality in the comments section below.
