Fallout: New Vegas 2 Is “Very Doubtful,” Says Obsidian
With Fallout 76’s release date rapidly approaching, fans of the longtime Bethesda franchise are beginning to explore other games within the series, whether it be with new up and coming mods, or the vanilla experiences that got them hooked in the first place. The arrival of a new Fallout game is likely what prompted one fan to ask Obsidian Entertainment – developer of Fallout: New Vegas – whether or not the studio would work on another Fallout game.
The fan posed the question to Obsidian’s Twitter account, and the Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire developer was all too happy to issue a response, albeit a rather glib one in the form of a reply from a magic eight ball. Here’s the studio’s answer:

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Obsidian has much interest in working on another entry in the iconic series given the manner in which they responded to the fan’s question. While the developer enjoyed a significant amount of success with its Star Wars: KOTOR 2 and Fallout: New Vegas games, the studio fell into a financial crisis back in 2012, which prompted them to use crowdfunding to help create Pillars of Eternity. The hugely successful campaign and, subsequently, the well-received title allowed Obsidian to create a sequel, which has been the dev’s main focus with regular DLC releases since its release earlier this year. While it is unfortunate that Obsidian seemingly has no plans of working on another Fallout game, at least the studio isn’t in danger of closing its doors any time soon.
Fallout 76 arrives on November 14 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
