Devil May Cry 5 Developer Interview Provides New Details
An interview in Weekly Famitsu has delivered many new details on the highly anticipated Devil May Cry 5. Game Director Hedeaki Itsuno, Senior Producer Michiteru Okabe, and Producer Matthew Walker gave a deep dive into the game’s development. Most of the details cover the visual and gameplay aspects of the title, but some also provide insight into the game’s story.
Devil May Cry 5 aims to be the most action packed game in the franchise’s history. That’s a massive bar to hurdle, but the three developers provided reason to believe. Devil May Cry 4 fell a bit flat in terms of animation frames; Capcom intentionally sacrificed some for responsiveness. In Devil May Cry 5, however, responsiveness and animation frames received equal attention. Capcom believes this will help create photorealistic graphics and keep players fully enthralled in their hacking and slashing.
Capcom plans for the game to hit 60 FPS, which obviously requires top of the line technology. To attain that photorealism, Capcom is utilizing a new scanning technique. In a nutshell, the team crafts real clothing and scans it to achieve a more realistic appearance. Video game clothing often fails to reach a realistic quality. This new technique could solve the issue once and for all.
The team also stated that Devil May Cry 5 will take place a few years after its predecessor. Doing so allows them to show a more grizzled Nero, still snarky but more experienced and powerful than in his first appearance. That feels like a natural progression, but Dante’s reported insanity has left fans scratching their heads. The developers confirmed that there is a legitimate reason behind his madness, but declined to offer any further insight. That figures to be a key plot point in the title. The developers also confirmed that the third character in the featured image will be playable, but again declined to elaborate. None of this provides much in terms of plot, but we now have a more thorough understanding of Dante and Nero’s mindsets and journeys.
Capcom is shooting for the stars with this title, and rightfully so. The explosive E3 trailer left us in awe and craving more. Thankfully, the game is further along than expected at this point, and we should see a demo soon.
Devil May Cry 5 will launch in early 2019 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
