Destiny 2 Warmind Expansion Finally Reveals The Mysterious Exo Stranger’s Identity
The Exo Stranger of the original Destiny has remained on of franchise’s longest standing mysteries that many assumed would never be answered. The character played an integral part in Destiny’s main storyline keeping tabs on the player’s Guardian throughout the game. Unfortunately, the Exo Stranger did not return for Destiny 2 with the game’s director Luke Smith even mentioning that the character would not be revisited. It seems there may have been some change on this front and while the Exo Stranger still hasn’t made a visual appearance in the game, the Warmind expansion has revealed her to be none other than Elsie Bray.
Within the Destiny 2 expansion, players are tasked with destroying Lost Memory Fragments that are hidden throughout Mars. Upon destroying them, they’re rewarded with items containing text describing memories of Elsie Bray. She mentions having studied the Vex, working on a device which could be utilised in travelling through time, and that ultimately she needed to destroy and hide her research so it wouldn’t be used by her family.
Of course this doesn’t sound like proof yet. With the help of a complex cipher that fans have dubbed the Rasputin Puzzle the dots begin to connect. The cipher took dedicated players days to crack but when they did the solution pointed to a real world location where Vicarious Visions had hidden prizes, which included coins with the phrase “Elsie Bray – Don’t Be A Stranger” on them. More importantly however was the following text via the cipher itself:
Thank you for taking the time to piece together this message, friend. The time of our final conflict is drawing closer and you and Ana have an important role to play in the events to come. So watch over her, Guardian. I would have no life without Ana or the Exoprogram. I regret that we have become strangers, but we each have a path that we must walk and, ironically, there never seems to be enough time. Tell her, Rasputin’s first attempt was in the right location, but the wrong moment. look here: 43.549573, -73.544868 – e”
The “e” clearly stands for Elsie Bray and indicates that she underwent a process to become an Exo. Various other clues throughout the Warmind expansion make it clear that Elsie Bray and the Exo Stranger are one and the same. For example, clever fans deduced that the symbol on the Exo Stranger’s forehead and Ana Bray clothing is also identical, as well the flavor text on the “Eon Drive sparrow” also reveals hints that the two are connected.
While fans finally know who the Exo Stranger is there’s still the question of who she’s working with? Perhaps in time she’ll become a major part of the story once again and further questions will be answered. Let us know your thoughts on Elsie Bray, Destiny 2, and more in the comments section below.
