Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Expansion Reveal Announced
Destiny 2 may be closing in on the end of Season of the Splicer, but Bungie is already teasing plans for its long-awaited next expansion, The Witch Queen. Revealed in a recent post on social media, the official Destiny 2 Twitter account announced a new showcase event scheduled for August 24th, with an image displaying the date, an ominous logo, as well as “Survive the Truth,” a seeming tagline for the upcoming content.

Destiny 2 first announced The Witch Queen in a large-scale reveal event last year as Bungie laid out plans for the future of the sci-fi looter shooter. News about the expansion had been few and far between in the months since, making this decidedly low-key announcement all the more exciting. Aside from the occasional concept art, the last official utterance from Bungie saw the chapter delayed to “early 2022” due to the ongoing pandemic, with the team reserving the extra time to properly complete the content.
“As we’ve been developing The Witch Queen, we realized that we needed this release to be the first of many moments crucial to the story of Destiny,” Bungie relayed in a blog post back in February. “With so much leading to and dependent on what happens in The Witch Queen, we wanted to make sure that we gave ourselves enough time to build out this journey in the right way, starting with an exceptional first chapter in The Witch Queen.”
With several months between August 24th and next year, the approaching showcase for The Witch Queen probably won’t be too Earth-shattering. However, fans will likely be able to expect a release date, the first gameplay footage at the event, as well as details about the incoming Season 15. Of course, this witchy new chapter is only the first part of Bungie’s expansions, with the even-more-ominous-sounding Lightfall set to arrive in 2023.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
