Death Stranding Director’s Cut Offers PS5 Ultrawide Support (VIDEO)

Death Stranding Director's Cut

The video game industry has many beloved figures, but perhaps none as infamously eccentric as Hideo Kojima. The larger-than-life auteur’s games have fascinated many, and his grand artistic visions have come to life in them. His latest game, Death Stranding, gave Kojima more control than he has ever had to execute his vision, but apparently, the creator had even more ideas left on the cutting room floor. The recent announcement of the Death Stranding Director’s Cut has delighted many fans of the game wanting to see more for Sam Porter-Bridges, and now it seems that the game will be marking a first for the PlayStation platform.

New details about the Death Stranding Director’s Cut have been revealed in a new PlayStation blog post, as well as a new Q&A video on the official Kojima Productions YouTube channel. These new releases shared more improvements and features that will be added to the new version of the game on PlayStation 5, including 3D audio and compatibility with the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit came from the new picture mode details:

Choose from two picture modes – Performance Mode with upscaled 4K and up to 60FPS or Fidelity Mode in native 4K – both with ultra-wide and HDR support.”

The Death Stranding Director’s Cut on PS5 will supposedly support ultrawide monitors, which are typically used specifically for PC gaming. The PlayStation 5 does not natively support ultrawide monitors, so it is not yet known how exactly this will work with the console. Some of theorized that the picture will be stretched on typical televisions even further than it currently is for Widescreen formatted pieces of media originally framed in 4:3 format, though this would be entirely optional in the player settings. Death Stranding’s gorgeous landscapes would stretch for miles and absolutely look stunning in an ultrawide view. Hopefully this can be done in an optimal screen. That would be enough to make a BB smile and giggle with joy.
