Deadpool Actor Cast As Detective Pikachu Over Danny Devito, Internet Freaks Out

Detective Pikachu Casting

A recent Detective Pikachu casting revealed that Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds would be playing the titular character, though it seems many fans are not happy with this decision.

Detective Pikachu was originally a game in which a gruff, coffee loving Pikachu speaks “human” and solves various mysteries revolving around Pokemon with the help of his young partner, Tim Goodman. The game itself hasn’t quite made it outside of Japan yet but that hasn’t stopped a movie from being created for the rest of the world.

When the game was released last year, many fans decided the only casting they’d like to see for a Detective Pikachu movie was that of Danny DeVito. Fans will recognize DeVito from his role as Frank Reynolds in the TV comedy It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The casting of Reynolds has upset these hardcore fans and many have taken to social media to voice their concerns.

It is disappointing when the voice you imagine for a character doesn’t end up being the one cast in a film or game, though we can’t wait to see what hilarity awaits with the Deadpool actor.  Reynolds will be appearing as Detective Pikachu alongside Justice Smith as the human Lead and Kathryn Newton as the female lead. There is no release date set for the film, however filming is set to begin sometime in January 2018.
