Critical Role Launching New Publishing Company For Tabletop Games
The Critical Role crew has expanded from their origins as a group of voice actors who play games together. Over the years they’ve seen not one but two long-running D&D campaigns, including one that is currently ongoing, as well as comic books, podcasts talking about games and those involved with them, an upcoming animated TV show, and much more. Now it seems the team is looking to delve into not just playing games but publishing their own as well.
A recent announcement has arrived explaining that the people at Critical Role are launching their own publishing company called Darrington Press. The company will be headed by Ivan Van Norman, who has been producing tabletop games for years and worked on developing and producing Wil Wheaton’s online series TableTop. Matthew Mercer will also be serving as one of the heads, acting as the creative advisor for the publisher. The first title coming from the shiny new publisher is Uku’otoa, playing off of Critical Role’s second campaign and the ex-patron of character Fjord. The title will be “a tactical game of semi-cooperative card play” between different factions fight to be the last to be swallowed up by the great sea leviathan.
We are THRILLED to announce our publishing company, @DarringtonPress! We are immensely grateful to everyone involved in helping us turn this dream into a reality.

The team also has plans for a game following the Vox Machina crew called Critical Role Adventures, a modern magic roleplaying game that sees various mob families duking it out against each other, and lastly, a cooperative card game called Guardians of Matrimonia where players work together to stop a series of monsters called “party crashers.” There’s already an impressive line up of titles waiting to be released, it’ll be interesting to see how they all play out and what the company has planned further into the future.
Darrington Press’ Uku’otoa is set to arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2021 while the other three games are set to arrive throughout the rest of the year.
