In a fresh new trailer, Sony introduced the new PlayStation App, a new way for PS4 and PS5 owners to “connect, discover, and control.” Get in touch with friends in their messaging feature, stay informed on the latest in gaming news, and download games to your console straight from your phone. Check out the features below:

The PlayStation App is the one-stop shop for fans and owners of Sony consoles, including the upcoming next-generation PlayStation 5. Similar to other communication apps on the market, the PlayStation App features voice chat and message sending to PlayStation Network (PSN) friends. There you can view player profiles and their expanding trophy collection too!

There’s also a curated newsfeed that dishes out the latest in gaming news and other related topics to the PlayStation community, including new releases, pre-order dates, deals, and discounts as well. The PlayStation App also serves as a hub for session invites to multiplayer games.

Directly from a smart device, players can download games and add-ons directly to their Sony console, or remotely launch the console from anywhere. So, as soon as you’re off work or school, it’s ready to go, and there’s none of the hassle of waiting.

Sony has some heavy competition when it comes to publicity, especially since Xbox is giving away an Xbox Series X-shaped fridge. In fact, Snoop Dogg gave the world a sneak peek at what people could be getting. Some light-hearted competition is always fun, and we can only hope Sony will be more enthusiastic about cross-platform partnership one day! Regardless of their stance, there’s no hiding the trending excitement for the PS5 right now.

The PlayStation App is available for Android and iOS users right now.
