Apex Legends Cross-Play Coming In The Future, Says Respawn

Apex Legends Crossplay

The big surprise in gaming this week continues to be Apex Legends, the suddenly released battle royale multiplayer game set in the Titanfall universe. Respawn Entertainment and EA took a big risk by giving the game a shocking release, and so close to the launch of EA and BioWare’s Anthem, but it seems to have paid off.

Just three days after the game first went live, it has already passed ten million unique players, and even reached one million concurrent players. With so many users, one obvious question held by many is will Apex Legends cross-play ever be in the cards? According to Respawn, this functionality is coming.

Recently, Respawn Entertainment spoke with Eurogamer about their surprise new game to provide clear information about its launch. As players are probably aware now, Apex Legends does not currently allow for cross-play functionality, but according to this interview, Respawn “plans to allow players to play with their friends on other platforms.” However, this comes with a caveat, as the game sadly cannot allow for cross-purchases or cross-progress.

According to Respawn, the game’s infrastructure makes it impossible to include these aspects “due to the way systems were set up early on.” So, while this does mean that Xbox One players will be able to play with their friends on PC and PS4, they will not be able to transfer their accounts or weapons purchased in game to other platforms.

Still, for those looking to unite their friends across multiple digital platforms, they can hold onto the hope of that bright future coming some time hopefully soon. Hopefully, Pathfinder will lead the path that leads Respawn to this golden destination.
