Anthem’s Future: EA Wants To Make BioWare’s New IP An Entire Franchise
There’s a lot of controversy surrounding BioWare’s upcoming open-world title Anthem. Whereas many Mass Effect hopefuls resent the future IP for Andromeda’s apparent abandonment, others are excited to see what the powerhouse dev team has up their sleeve. After all, some of our favourite names from the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises are tied tot he project. Regardless of where you fall on the reactionary scale, one thing is for certain: Anthem is going for the long haul.
Chief Financial Officer for EA, Blake Jorgensen, took center stage during the UBS Global Technology Conference this year to talk about the future of Anthem and how they want to turn it into something akin to the longevity of Battlefront:
We’ve been able to bring out some great new titles that have turned into franchises, like the Star Wars activity, like Battlefront, for example, that layer in more franchises over time. We’re trying to do that with BioWare’s Anthem game.”
According to the team, there are multiple Anthem titles in the works as of right now during planning phase, much like the highly praised Dragon Age series. Because of this, EA promises that for longevity sake, they won’t be slathering on expansions and DLC – instead taking a more long-term approach for content as actual releases. If it turns out anything like the Mass Effect trilogy, this could mean very positive things for the upcoming Sci-Fi title, especially so with Anthem promising a “strong story” and powerful narrative features.
Anthem currently does not have a set release date, though it is slated for a Fall 2018 window. The upcoming action-adventure game will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
