Next Dragon Age Title Could be a Spin-Off Instead of Dragon Age 4

Next Dragon Age Game

Rumors have been swirling like crazy around the next Dragon Age title, which nobody knows what it is yet. Many places have been saying that Dragon Age 4 is being worked on, but nothing concrete has come forth. However, in a recent Twitter exchange, senior creative director Mike Laidlaw hinted at what’s to come, and it could be a potential spin-off.

It would seem that the logical next step beyond Inquisition would be Dragon Age 4, but after what Laidlaw said, it’s definitely not looking like that is the case. When a fan asked if DA4 starts after Trespasser, Mike simply stated that “DA4 is not confirmed”. To this, the fan responded with confusion, stating that they had read it had been solidified as the next Dragon Age title. Here is Mike’s followup:

This brings about a whole new can of worms. If the next Dragon Age game isn’t DA4, does that mean it could be a spin-off? Will BioWare take the same route that they did with the Mass Effect franchise and begin a new story within the same universe? Anything is possible when it comes to spin-offs, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the team comes up with. After all, Laidlaw neither confirmed nor denied it being DA4, so it very well could end up being the fourth installment that fans are looking for. […] Hard in Hightown is now available for pre-order for $19.99 for the hardcover version of the book. It is expected to ship on July 31, 2018. There is currently no word on whether or not Dark Horse Books is looking into publishing any other novels that originated from video games, though if Hard in Hightwon sells well – and we hope it does – mayhaps the publisher will give Varric’s Swords and Shields novel the same treatment?
