Blizzard Plans to Release More Overwatch Events and DLC in the Future
The team based first-person shooter game, Overwatch has had two in game events, the Summer Games and the Halloween event, that were so successful that Blizzard has plans for even more in the future. Both of them were so much fun to play and it was nice to get variety compared to the normal game mode.
Overwatch has apparently already reached 20 million registered players, which no Blizzard game has ever reached so quickly. That isn’t much of a surprise to us since we all love the game too here at DFTG. Obviously these events bring in a lot of money from players buying loot boxes and such, so it makes sense to continue doing special events instead of creating an expansion to the game. We wouldn’t mind an expansion, but… these events still rock on their own.
Blizzard’s CEO Mike Morhaime had this to say during one of their earnings calls:
“The two events that we’ve had so far have shown us we have a great model for follow-on content… We’ve found that it stimulates our audience and drives record engagement, so you should expect to see more events, like summer games and Halloween, and additional content, which we’ll discuss in more detail later. We’re very excited about the prospects for the future.”
This is exciting news for us since we have personally enjoyed both past Overwatch events. We are almost as excited as we were for the official announcement of Sombra… almost.
What future events do you think they will plan? I hope for some kind of Holiday event with killer snowmen! Let us know what kind of event you’re hoping for down below and check in with DFTG often for all things Overwatch and gaming news in general! Right now, for November 5th, our team is gaming for 24 hours straight to raise money for children’s hospitals across america through Extra Life. Meet the team and donate to the cause here.
