Halo Infinite Fan Backlash Addressed By 343 Industries
The recent reveal for Halo Infinite brought a lot for fans to enjoy such as shiny new weapons, a grappling hook, and Craig, the newfound loveable Brute. Still, the gameplay seemed to have been hit or miss with fans with some praising the arrival of a new adventure through the eyes of John-117 and feeling that the visual style was on-brand with the Halo franchise while others seem to have taken an issue with the graphical representation of the title. 343 Industries has stepped in to address the concerns of fans, including the new visual take on the franchise seen through the recent demo.
A recent developer update from 343 Industries explained that the team spent a lot of time listening to the community to gather feedback. The post stated that, firstly, the team decided to move back to a more “classic” art style for the upcoming title, calling back to previous feedback gathered from Halo 4 through Halo Wars 2. Secondly, while some fans have been concerned with the visual fidelity of the recent demo, the post explained that while the demo may not have lived up to fans’ expectations, the team at 343 Industries agrees, stating that they still have a lot of work to do.
With Halo Infinite, we’re returning to a more ‘classic’ art style which was a key message going back to the very first reveal that garnered enthusiastic and positive responses. This translates to a more vibrant palette, “cleaner” models and objects with less “noise”, though it doesn’t mean less detail. While we appreciate this may not be everyone’s personal preference, we stand by this decision and are happy to see it resonating with so many fans around the world.”
Though there’s set to be plenty of exciting details, many have remained unconvinced of the game’s visuals since the footage debuted, with some going as far as using their skills to touch up the Halo Infinite demo to make the visual representation of the content seem that much better. Even so, 343 iterated that the build of the game used for the demo was a work-in-progress one from several weeks prior and that the team is still actively polishing details ahead of the game’s upcoming launch. Though there are no concrete answers as to what that will look like for fans at this time.
“We’ve read your comments, we’ve seen the homemade examples of retouched content,” the post continued. “The build used to run the campaign demo was work-in-progress from several weeks ago with a variety of graphical elements and game systems still being finished and polished. While some of the feedback was expected and speaks to areas already in progress, other aspects of the feedback have brought new opportunities and considerations to light that the team is taking very seriously and working to assess.”
We don’t have firm answers or outcomes to share yet but the team is working as quickly as possible on plans to address some of the feedback around detail, clarity, and overall fidelity. The team is committed and focused on making sure we have a beautiful world for players to explore when we launch.”
