Xbox Scarlett Will Feature Two Versions For VR and Streaming, Says Analyst

Xbox Scarlett

With 2018 closing down, gamers are looking forward to all of the gaming goodness that will make its debut next year. Some of the biggest rumored newcomers for the new year are the next-gen video game consoles by Sony and Microsoft. The codenamed Xbox Scarlett is Microsoft’s new rumored device that has had many people theorizing what Microsoft might do with the console to put them back on top in the industry. Well, one notable analyst has weighed in on the new device, or rather, as he puts it, two new potential devices.

Michael Pachter recently spoke with Gaming Bolt about his thoughts on the next-gen consoles rumored to be announced next year. According to Pachter, he seems to believe that Xbox will attempt a two-prong approach with their next generation of hardware with capabilities not seen on Xbox before, saying:

I expect a dumbed down console, like the Steam console, where it’s download only, and there’s no hard drive or disc drive. So I think there will be a streaming device, like a $100 Xbox console that doesn’t run in 4K or 240 frames per second. And then I think there will be a more expensive $400 console that supports 4K, 240 FPS, virtual reality. I don’t know if there will be ‘models’. I don’t think you’re going to get completely different devices.”

Pachter also believes that Sony will also have a 4k/240 FPS device for their next generation, but he is not entirely sure that they will have a streaming-only device. Pachter has made many correct predictions in the past, though not always accurate or true, so take his analysis as serious, but with some healthy skepticism. Time will tell if Pachter is indeed correct, or if he is misleading us with a Scarlett cord.
