New World Of Warcraft Animated Short Sheds Light On Jaina’s Seafaring Bloodthirst (VIDEO)
Blizzard is all about story. Each of their franchises have deep, complex lore that keeps gamers on the edge of the seat and wanting more. With the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth expansion arriving next month and a pre-DLC experience called War of Thorns now live, the team is preparing for the onslaught of mayhem that war will bring. The ongoing feud between the Horde and the Alliance spark a new war and neither side has intention of backing down.
To fill in gaps of storyline in preparation for the expansion, the World of Warcraft team introduced the first of three animated shorts to come, beginning first with Jaina Proudmoore. Years before, as her father stood as a proud seafaring Alliance member, Jaina stood aside as the Horde tore them down. Believing her father was “consumed by irrational hatred,” Jaina reflects on the actions of her past as the war encroaches and “wonders if she should have listened” to him instead. From the looks of it, Jaina is prepared for bloodshed:
The majority of the story spotlight features a sea shanty that’ll send chills down your spine. The lyrics speak of familial betrayal, one that ended the life of Jaina’s seafaring father. She turned his back on him, but as another war with the Horde approaches the cusp of battle, Jaina turns to her late father for guidance. The vocal ensemble is phenomenal. The lyrics are as follows:
Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea. Beware, I heard him cry. His words carried upon the ocean breeze as he sank beneath the tide. Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor, where sailors fought and died. The admiral fell at Theramore, because she left his side.
Why this? Why this, oh Daughter of the Sea? Why this, did you forget your seaside days? Always the pride of our nation’s eyes, how could she go astray? When she did flee across the ocean deep, the admiral follow west. What else, but sail to save a daughter’s life and pray she still drew breath? But there he found upon those distant shores, enemies ‘pon the rise!
But when he faced those savage foes, his daughter stood aside. And buried deep beneath the waves, betrayed by family, to his nation with his last breath cried – beware the Daughter of the Sea.
Directed by Doug Gregory, and illustrated by a team of talented artists – Laurel Austin, Vasilii Zorin, Jonathan Fletcher, and Yewon Park – and written by Robert Brooks, this World of Warcraft video was nothing short of amazing. There are two more episodes awaiting discovery, featuring Warchief Sylvanas and Queen Azshara. What are your personal thoughts? Did it tingle your senses?
