Wonder Woman Sequel Reportedly Set in the 1980s

Wonder Woman sequel

Although a Wonder Woman sequel wasn’t originally part of DC’s plans for its Extended Universe, the massive success of Gal Gadot’s first solo outing as Diana Prince has more than ensured a second film, with DC looking to fill in more of the time gap between Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman.  According to new production details uncovered by Screen Rant, it appears that Wonder Woman 2 will be set during the 1980s, pitting Diana up against the forces of the Soviet Union during the final days of the Cold War.  The production team is supposedly staying on for the sequel, with director Patty Jenkins expected to return as well, once a new contract is signed.

One unexpected bit of news that has surfaced regarding the Wonder Woman sequel is the return of Chris Pine, who is set to reprise his role as Steve Trevor.  The decision to bring Steve Trevor back makes a great deal of sense, as the on-screen chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine helped make the movie as successful as it was.  It will be interesting to see how they bring Steve Trevor back, given his fate at the end of the first movie.  He could be reprising his role for something as simple as a flashback.  That said, the DCEU is full of protagonists that have come back from seemingly fatal situations, including a certain male superhero’s presumed return at some point during the upcoming Justice League movie.
