Henry Cavill Confirms Superman Return: “I Am Back” (VIDEO)

Henry Cavill Superman Man Of Steel

Lately, Henry Cavill may be known for assembling PCs and slicing up monsters as The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia, but for a while, the actor was once cemented as the “hope” of the DC Universe, a.k.a. Superman. However, his established superhero role has since descended into doubt in recent years as creative shuffles and high-profile corporate restructuring proved to leave no room for Cavill as the big blue boy scout. Though, it appears this stance has now changed, as Henry Cavill has confirmed his return as the Man of Steel.

The announcement was made by Cavill himself via a video posted to the actor’s Instagram account. Highlighting the post with a new image in full Superman costume, Cavill revealed he was indeed “back as Superman,” confirming weeks of rumors foretelling his return. In addition, Cavill thanked fans for their support and patience, promising “it will be rewarded.” Interestingly, the Superman actor also hinted at what might be on the horizon, but teased that he’ll “get to that in time.” Warning: spoilers follow.

Now that the non-spoiler veil is lifted: Cavill notably made his surprise return as Kal-El in this weekend’s big-screen release of Black Adam, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the electrifying antihero. Rather than appearing in the movie, Superman instead showed up as a short cameo appearance during the mid-credits. Without getting into specifics, Black Adam is deemed a danger to planet Earth after the film’s very destructive events, and Supes is poised to confront this powerful new rival live and in person.

“The image you see on this post and what you saw in Black Adam is just a very small taste of things to come,” Cavil teased in his Instagram video. However, what this may mean is still seemingly up in the air. Dwayne Johnson has similarly played coy about Kal-El’s future, suggesting his next appearance might not even be a Black Adam vs. Superman showdown. Could this indicate a team-up film, or possibly even the long-awaited Man of Steel sequel? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.

Black Adam is now playing in theaters.
