Patty Jenkins Attached to Wonder Woman 2 – Just Waiting for the Green Light

Wonder Woman 2 - Patty Jenkins

Wonder Woman has officially been released in theaters and it is kicking all sorts of rear ends. What is projected to earn a $100 million opening weekend, the film is already 94% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 93% audience rating. Not only could the movie potentially bring down top earners such as Christoper Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, but it could also be just the flick that DC has been waiting for to get their footing secured in the extended universe. While the initial films in the DCEU have brought in piles of cash, they have certainly been met with a considerable amount of criticism. Since this doesn’t seem to be the case for Gal Gadot‘s solo superhero outing, which was directed by Patty Jenkins, it begs the question: When do we get a Wonder Woman 2?

Well, it’s just too early to tell when a sequel will be made, but with the road of success that it looks like the first film is headed down, it would be considered insane for Warner Bros. not to green light a second one. According to a recent profile about director Patty Jenkins by The Hollywood Reporter, if Wonder Woman 2 does happen, her and Gal Gadot are contracted to return. This, of course, should come as a relief in the day and age of directors being swapped out between movies. After all, Patty is in the captain’s chair of the most female-centered comic book movie to date, and why would anyone dream of messing with that recipe of awesome?

While Jenkins seems to be breaking down doors for female directors in the movie business, it would appear that she doesn’t want to jump straight into Wonder Woman 2. “What I never want to do is start phoning it in and making things just to show that I can keep my foot in the door and do big movies,” she told THR. “I don’t care about that at all. I just want to make great movies. And that could come from any direction. It might be a $10 million movie or it might be $200 million movie.” If Wonder Woman turns out to be a hit, Patty has proven that she can do both. On the lower end of the budget spectrum, she is probably best known for her 2003 Oscar-winning hit Monster, which was an $8 million indie film. Needless to say, Jenkins knows how to kick some serious butt.

What say you, moviegoers? Have you been able to see Wonder Woman yet? Is it as fantastic as everyone says it is, or does it fall a bit short like other films in the DCEU?
