Wonder Woman Sequel Receives an Official 2019 Release Date
Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman exceeded all expectations when it released earlier this year. Not only did the film offer a strong female lead, but the plot, visual effects, and musical score won audiences over worldwide. The official announcement of the film’s sequel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con was no surprise given its continuing success, and it looks like we’ll be seeing Gal Gadot in a Wonder Woman sequel sooner than expected. How does 2019 sound?
According to sources, Warner Bros. Studios has slated the Wonder Woman sequel to release on December 13th, 2019. The studio already had the spot reserved, but up until now it was unclear which movie would release. Previous speculations included the release of The Batman, but given that films current roller coaster of changes, it may be a while before Batfleck gets a solo outing.
Writer and Director Patty Jenkins is already working on a script with DC’s Geoff Johns, who oversees all of the current DC Extended Universe films in production. Johns and Jenkins worked on the first Wonder Woman film, which already raked in $389 million domestically and another $390 million internationally. I think it’s safe to assume that Diana Prince is in good hands.
Details for the movie are scarce, but there are a few things floating near the shores of Themyscira. There have been reports of actor Chris Pine returning as Steve Trevor and a 1980’s setting. The time setting is further insinuated by Warner Bros. President, Toby Emmerich, who says that the story will take place in the past, but not during World War I like its predecessor. One thing is for sure and that is that Gal Gadot will be returning for Wonder Woman sequel as she should be.
December 2019 is still pretty far away, but fans are already anticipating the next film. For those that need their Wonder Woman fix, Gal Gadot stars in Justice League this November. That should hold us for at least a little bit. Are you excited for Wonder Woman 2? How did the film resonate with you compared to other comic book based films?
