Warner Bros. Gives Approval to Live-Action Voldemort Fan Film (VIDEO)

Voldemort Fan Film

While the original Harry Potter film series based on the hit novels has ended, Warner Bros. is continuing the franchise’s cinema presence with their planned Fantastic Beasts series of films, set as an early prequel to the original series. With franchises as big as Potter, the only thing to be as expected as the studio obtaining every bit of use from the property that they can is the likeliness for fan projects to arise throughout the internet, particularly in the form of fan films. While this does create some conflict between the studio and its fans, sometimes the two can work together to find a path that pleases both sides, just as Warner Bros. seems to have found now as it has authorized a live-action Voldemort fan film project. Check out a teaser for the project below:

The project was close to being shut down completely not too long ago. Tryangle Films originally asked for financial support from fellow Potter fans via Kickstarter, but Warner Bros. sought to have the campaign closed to protect their intellectual property claims. Luckily, Tryangle Films made their best attempt to make a deal with Warner Bros. that would allow their project to continue. In an email sent to Polygon, the film’s director Gianmaria Pezzato had this to say:

We had a private and confidential discussion with Warner Bros who contacted us during the period of the crowdfunding campaign. The only thing we can say is that they let us proceed with the film, in a non profit way, obviously.”

With an agreement now reached, the fan film was allowed to proceed. The new teaser trailer gives a glimpse of the younger version of He Who Must Not Be Named in magic action, and Grisha Mac Laggen, the heir of Gryffindor, looking to stop his dark magic before it grows stronger. The effects seen in the teaser look impressive, certainly for a fan film, and feels very much like a part of the Harry Potterverse, even if that is not the case legally speaking.
