Next Week’s Game of Thrones Episode Leaks, Separate From Previous HBO Leaks This Week
Earlier this week, many news outlets reported about a massive hack that hit HBO and led to the leaking of full episodes of HBO shows Ballers and Room 104, as well as a partial script of next week’s new Game of Thrones episode “Spoils of War”. Many were surprised that despite such a massive hack, that only an incomplete script of the massively popular series. Now, it appears that a separate hacking incident has achieved this feat as it is being noticed that next week’s Game of Thrones episode leaks.
The Verge has reported that a source close to HBO and their recent security breach has stated that the leak of the “Spoils of War” Game of Thrones episode was due to a compromise involving a distribution partner. Star India is HBO’s distribution partner in India that has the rights to air Game of Thrones in the country, and their logo can be clearly seen watermarked in the version of the episode that has leaked online. While the HBO hackers do not seem to have obtained this or any of the remaining season 7 Game of Thrones episodes, it is possible that the remaining episodes could still be obtained from Star India through hacking and leaked to the public.
Star India has officially confirmed this compromise and leak in a statement to The Verge, saying: “This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause.” This episode will release officially on HBO in two days, and much like the Lannister forces will be rewarded with the spoils of war in the new episode, so also will fans who wait to watch it be rewarded with the episode as it was meant to be seen, without watermarks.
