The Last Of Us HBO Series Casts Riley From Left Behind DLC

The film and television industries are full of projects these days that are adapting video game franchises to live-action. Netflix has found much success adapting The Witcher to live-action and Amazon has a big-budget Fallout adaptation in the works as well. HBO’s next big project is The Last of Us, which has so far confirmed major talent including Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and even Parks and Recreation’s Nick Offerman. While this first season is expected to adapt the first Last of Us game, many have wondered if the character Riley might appear. Now, it has been confirmed the character’s casting for the show.

Riley

Deadline shared the Riley casting announcement on their official website. with actress Storm Reid confirmed for the role of Riley in The Last of Us HBO series. Reid is best known for her work on the series Euphoria, which is also an HBO exclusive production. She also starred in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time as well as a smaller role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Riley

For those unaware, Riley Abel is introduced in the first game’s Left Behind story DLC, depicting her friendship with Ellie in Boston before her cross-country mission with Joel begins. Many praised the character’s inclusion, as well as the part that she plays in revealing Ellie’s queer identity. With this announcement coming late in production, it is likely that Riley might be seen later on in this first season’s 10-episode run. It is also possible she will be relegated to flashbacks since her part in the story acts as a prequel. However she is included, with a proven young talent like Reid, it’s great to see such a crucial character for Ellie added to the series. Here’s hoping we can see Willem Dafoe added to the cast as a clicker too. He wouldn’t even need makeup!
