The Witcher Netflix Producer Says It’s A “Fun Show” With Plenty Of Magic
Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher series is less than a month away, and fans from both the original book series and those that loved the CD Projekt RED games are ready to sink their teeth into the small screen adventures of Geralt of Rivia. While there’s been quite a bit of talking about what can be expected from the show, it is almost universally assumed that it will feature a whole lot of sword & sorcery action. Recently, The Witcher executive producer Tomek Baginski confirmed that the show will be quite enjoyable, while also admitting that its creators had “some fun with magic.”
The Witcher executive producer Tomek Baginski recently spoke with the folks at ComicBook about the upcoming show and what fans can expect. “Witcher is a quite special book and special world because it’s fun,” Baginski began.
It’s dark at moments and very gritty, but at the same time it’s quite often very funny because even in the darkest moments, in the darkest moments of history, people want to have a party, right? People want to drink wine and people want to have fun, so yes, it’s a fun show.”
Baginski goes on to talk about how many of the scenes in the show were particularly fun to create, all while trying to find the right voice for the series. “We have some fun with magic. We have some great fights with monsters, but also at the same time our main goal was to nail the characters,” Baginski said. “We spent a lot of time looking for the right voice. We spent a lot of time looking for the right cast for the show, and both for Lauren and for me and for the rest of the producers, the most important aspect of the series was the human side of it, and the characters we can build on.”
Netflix’s The Witcher series is set to debut on December 20, 2019.
