The Mandalorian Season 2 References Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

The Mandalorian

The second season of the Mandalorian has started off with a bang as Dyn Djarin seeks aid from a Mandalorian in tracking down The Child’s “kind.” Over the course of the episode, there were a ton of easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans to pick up on, including one that pays homage to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Three are some slight spoilers ahead for the Chapter 9 episode of the show, so fans keen on not staying spoiler-free, this is you’re warning.

The episode sees Dyn Djarin helping the people of Mos Pelgo and Tusken Raiders kill a massive Krayt Dragon. Fans have seen such creatures before such as in A New Hope where the remains of one such creature is featured in the sand behind C-3PO. The scene in The Mandalorian, however, is incredibly resemblant of a mission found in the BioWare game Knights of the Old Republic, which sees players also hunting a Krayt Dragon. In KOTOR, players need to lure the creature out of hibernating in a cave with bait in the hopes that the creature would run into mines scattered around the sand. In both The Mandalorian and the game, a bantha was used as fodder, though from there, the show and the game begin to differ.

The dragon in The Mandalorian isn’t killed by just the hidden mines, but eventually meets its end from the inside. Afterward, as the Tusken Raiders begin to harvest the creature, the Disney Plus series make one last discovery and connection to KOTOR. As the Tuskens hack away within the dead Krayt, they stumble upon a giant pearl, an item that was also featured in KOTOR as well. Players could either use the item to build relations with the Tusken Raiders, use it to upgrade their lightsaber, or sell it for quite a lot of credits. A big part of the episode was a neat homage to the classic Star Wars title and makes at least one more part of the defunct Legends lore canon. It’ll be interesting to see what other references the show will make next.

The Mandalorian Season 2 has finally arrived and will be updated every Friday at 3 A.M. ET. Let us know your thoughts on the Krayt Dragon and Pearl easter egg in the comments section below.
