The Mandalorian Actor Hints At Moff Gideon’s Force-Sensitivity
Giancarlo Esposito has done an amazing job portraying a wide variety of characters from Akela in the live-action Jungle book film as well as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul to being a major player in the recent Disney Plus show, The Mandalorian. His portrayal of Moff Gideon was quite intriguing, especially when it comes to that one scene. The character may be shrouded in mystery, but Esposito believes he may even be force-sensitive.
The Mandalorian actor recently took part in an interview concerning his portrayal of Anton Castillo in the upcoming Far Cry 6. Along the way, however, his role of Moff Gideon was brought up and Esposito reflected on the differences between the characters. He explains that Moff Gideon and Anton Castillo both have a regal and graceful air about them, but the Darksaber that Gideon wields brings a whole different aspect to his character than any other role he’s portrayed before. The character hasn’t revealed much about himself yet, leaving the possibilities open to what he could become in season 2, even potentially being a force user of all things.
“To be in the position of having that regal, graceful power but have this saber which delineates a different part of me than any other character,” Esposito said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “To have this saber means I can use it, and I can do my own dirty work, that I’m a fighter, that I’m a warrior. That’s part of me.
“It also creates the possibility that he is one of the ones. He possibly has that, and that to me is interesting because is he really that fallen hero? Is he a descendant of Darth Vader. Who is he? What does he want? He knows all about everything, and you’ll have to wait to find out. Yeah, he’s actually pretty good with that Darksaber too.”
Moff Gideon is set to take on a larger part of the story in season 2 of The Mandalorian and in doing so will be able to show off his colors a bit more. It’ll be interesting to see how Gideon came across the Darksaber, what he can do with the weapon and legendary Mandalorian artifact, as well as whether or not he has some sort of force powers up his sleeve after all. The first season of the show set up a lot of mysterious and intriguing paths to follow in the second season and beyond. What are you hoping to see come from Giancarlo Esposito’s character?
The Mandalorian’s second season is expected to arrive in October of this year, and a series of spin-off comics will be arriving at some point as well. Perhaps Moff Gideon will be explored in one, bringing answers into the mysterious and dangerous foe of Mando.
