Shadow Of The Tomb Raider: First 15 Minutes Shows Lara In Peril (VIDEO)

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Square Enix’s globe-trotting adventurer Lara Croft is on another dangerous exotic trek in the upcoming Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, where the heroine will face the extended threat of a world-ending Mayan apocalypse. These dramatic stakes are almost sure to put Lara, and by extension the player, through the ringer and this fight for survival is established pretty much instantly in the game’s first 15 minutes.

Premiering the first footage with IGN, Lara’s introduction is overflowing with tension as she attempts to gain control of a downward plane. The situation becomes further perilous as the aircraft begins tearing apart and it is discovered that parachutes are nowhere to be found. All hope would seem to be lost, but resolution would have to wait as the scene is interrupted by a 2 days-prior flashback.

It’s here where the gameplay truly begins, but Lara’s circumstances don’t seem any less precarious. The explorer is reintroduced in the bowels of a dark cavern pinned under a rock, leaving players to both pull her free and carefully navigate the underground labyrinth. Following her escape, the game ventures into more familiar territory when she and Jonah meet up to discover a glowing artifact. However, this doesn’t last long before an explosive trap forces the two of them to narrowly escape with their lives.

The scene then shifts to a much more festive Mexican village setting as the duo reunite to investigate what the villainous Trinity organization has planned this time around. A suspicious stranger soon captures Lara’s attention, leading seamlessly into a stealthy tailing mission. Unfortunately, before we get a chance to see where this intriguing thread leads, the strict 15-minute preview comes to an end. Check out the footage in glorious 4K below.

Based on this this initial gameplay, there looks to be plenty in the way of Tomb Raider‘s signature cinematic flourish and thrilling gameplay, suggesting another awesome entry from Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics. With footage elsewhere debuting fresh locales, new gameplay elements, and challenging exploration sections, hype is certainly mounting for the approaching release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which lands on September 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
